After many years living aboard, I finally reunited with my family in China and got a ton of time for travelling and enjoying my life. We decided to visit Yunnan first for a couple of reasons. First, it is peaceful and incredibly beautiful in many ways (as you will see in my blog). Second, it is well recognized for its many old towns with distinct culture features. Lastly but most importantly, the food. Rose cake, mushroom hotpot, various rice noodles, you name it. We spent around ten days in four different places. If any part of this blog happens to help you in the future, I would be very glad 😀

Right outside Lijiang airport, it looks tropical.
April 16, 2026 – Flying from Beijing to Lijiang > Taking a bus shuttle to the old town and settling down ourselves. We got a nice introduction by the tour guide on the shuttle and invited to the tourist center. Our later experience told us that it is not worthy to get the one-day tour pass. Self-guided trip would be way better, even though the ticket may seemingly cost a bit more than that from a bundle. Anyhow, we did not have a plan initially and booked our tour pass to the Yulong mountain the next day.

I love these bright colors under the sun light.
April 17, 2026 – We took a day trip with a group to Yulong snow mountain. After seeing the ‘golden’ mountain facing the rising sun, a cable car took us to the highland of Yunshanping, where we took a nice walk in the forest and went to see the mountain closer. There you will see some animals, and some couples shooting their marriage photos. What became a big surprise came after that – I was thrilled by the cleanness and brightness of the water in Lanyue Valley.
The only thing that bugged us was that we were sort of pressed to purchase stuffs that we probably do not need, like too many oxygen tanks and preventive drugs from highland fever, even though it was merely above three kilometers from the sea level. Plus, the lunch included was awful. Even though the tourist site ticket was said to be lower with the bundle, clearly it was not worth that. Better drive there or ask for a cab driver from your local inn/guide. Be sure to go early. Traffic gets worse in the morning.

It appears quite a peaceful land for these creatures.

Amazed by the pureness of water at Lanyue Valley. They said it came from the melt snow.

Before leaving Lijiang, we had a traditional mushroom hotpot (Yiduojun). In the pot we selected three different kinds of local mushrooms and some vegetables. The waiter kindly helped us set the pot up. I tried a few different soups/sauces and it tastes really good.

The old town looks especially beautiful at night. Glad that we came back there.
To be continued.
