Chennan & Sunrise Chaser

A little place to share ideas, feelings, and life stories

Travel Blog 2026/4 (pt.2)

April 18, 2026 – Heading for Lugu Lake today, located between Sichuan and Yunnan. This place is known for its matriarchal society of Mosuo people, in which women have greater power over men. We settled in the biggest town, Luoshui, and the inn was right next to the water. It was a surprise when we heard some folk songs singing from the next door – that was quite beautiful (shout out to him). As always, my travel buddy was with me. Now he is comfortably lying in the bed with a gorgeous lake view. One of the greatest things here is that we can stare at the water at different times of a day. Hearing the water slowly tapping at the shore is so soothing.

On our way to Lugu Lake. The river is called Jinshajiang. At this point, a skilled local driver is a must for most visitors.

“I don’t feel like moving anymore!”

To me, Lugu Lake is a place for vacation, not really entertaining or fun-seeking. It is totally good to stay here while doing nothing. The only things we did were participating in a local dance party around campfire, and taking a tour around the entire lake. You can also choose to go on a boat trip called Zhucaochuan to feel the wind and perhaps visit one of the islands. But we ended up not going because it was not the right season. I hope you can enjoy a feast for the eyes at the following series of pictures, like I did. I really hope we can go there again at a different season.

Local campfire party. It was quite fun dancing with strangers.
Morning in the inn
Hey we got another sunrise!
You can see a layer of fog right above the water in the morning.
A bridge for lovers to make their choice.
Imagine this in May/June when the grass all turns green
There are a couple of ports that are left unused seemingly.
Some floating algae hills
Looking at Nvshen Mountain at Nvshen Bay. Nvshen means goddess, if you recall the female-dominant nature of Mosuo society. This is my favorite spot during the entire trip.
A circle of colorful rocks
The water is so clean
Fish hotpot (outside)
Fish hotpot (inside, probably already half way thru)
The cake made of corn floor (好像叫做摩梭粑粑) tastes great
The last morning at Lugu Lake.
Our breakfast at the inn. Get ready to head for our next destination, Tengchong.

One quick thing to note is that it is always a good idea to visit the lake in the morning, rather than afternoons/evenings when the wind can get stronger and rain often comes disturbing your trip.

To be continued.
